Format tocmai pentru asta, volumul lui J.E. Wessely strânge pe cele 338 de pagini un vocabular esențial englez-german, organizat fără fasoane, direct la subiect.
Exemplarul de față păstrează coperta cartonată originală, semn al unei ediții gândite să reziste uzului zilnic, nu doar stării de raft. Apărut în 1906, într-o perioadă în care asemenea dicționare de buzunar circulau intens între vorbitorii celor două limbi, are astăzi mai degrabă valoare de piesă de colecție decât de instrument practic de lucru.

1. A phonetic system of showing the pronunciation of English words has been introduced into the English-German part, of which a full explanation is given on pp. VII and VIII. For convenience in reference, a list of the signs used in this system is repeated at the foot of every page of the English-German part.
2. In the text of the German-English part pronunciation is only given in the case of such germanised words as are irregularly pronounced. Long vowels are marked (thus: a), and all German words are spaced off into syllables to show the points at which they may be divided in writing, an being placed after and above the syllable on which the accent rests in pronunciation.
These are matters of great use and importance, and form a special feature of this work.
3. Phrases of either language are translated, whenever possible, by their equivalent (or nearest equivalent) phrase in the other, as well as (where necessary) by their literal meaning.
4. The plurals and genitives of German non-compound substantives are given in brackets in the text of the German-English part. Where the German noun remains unaltered in the genitive or plural, it is shewn by the sign -; while the sign 0 signifies that a plural form is either non-existent or seldom used. Ex.
Gesprä'chigkeit, f. (-, 0), the genitive being the same as the nominative and a plural form non-existent. Such neuter verbs as are conjugated with "sein", have (1) affixed to them, those conjugated at will with either sein" or "haben" are marked (, ); the remaining, being conjugated with "haben" only, are not specially marked.
5. In the German-English part the new spelling is adopted, but the old is also given in all cases where any difficulty might be encountered in finding the word in the text.
6. For purposes of easy reference a slip or "book-mark" is enclosed in each copy, containing a list of the abbreviations employed throughout the work.
